The Designer Behind the Brand

Born in 1978, Ajay Kumar graduated from Fashion Design course at National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi in 2003; winning the ‘Most Practical Menswear Collection Award’. Since graduating, he has worked under prestigious menswear brands across India such as Unistyle Images, Blackberry’s, Indigo Nation, Reid & Taylor, and finally as Head of Design – Casuals, Peter England. He was instrumental in evolving the complete brand imagery of Peter England design, marketing campaigns, styling and retail experience.

But a strong desire to make his own mark in fashion inspired him to quit his high profiled job in 2014. Ajay’s fascination for ornate prints, bold eye-catching patterns and keen sense of design aesthetics has been the conceptual underpinning of his eponymous brand ‘Mr. Ajay Kumar’.

Eclectic, Flamboyant and Progressive, Mr. Ajay Kumar is a Global Luxury Brand that takes a maximalist approach in bringing a modern emblematic aesthetic to its unconventional luxurious line, creating awareness that’s reflective of social change.

Under the idiosyncratic vision of the Creative Director Ajay Kumar, the brand has distinguished itself by its strong originality of narrative print on print aesthetic and paradoxical sartorial creations. An unmistakable direction of ‘Create in India’ with an emphasis on sustainable creation through engineered digital prints, less wastage, fair wages, reinvigorated artisanal techniques from Indian heritage tailoring and continuous association with handloom clusters has helped Mr. Ajay Kumar evolve as a conscious luxury brand.

Printastic, Nouveau Romantic and Elevated Style - Since its debut at Gen Next Lakme Fashion Week 2015-16, Mr. Ajay Kumar’s eclectic line has revolutionised the way Indian men perceived fashion and has made it desirable amongst the new age puritans who crave for sartorial elegance in their occasion wardrobe - FLAUNTWEAR. These new age puritans are the genre of social celebrities, shining stars, flamboyant personalities and achievers who wish to stand out and where truly ‘Age is a Statement to Make’.

Dichotomies have always been an integral part of the seasonal collections as they allow for more freedom to reinterpret India’s sartorial heritage into mod-graphic masterpieces rendered onto Indian Khadi cotton, Khadi Wool, Handloom Cotton, Silk Linen and Woollen fabrics in contemporary silhouettes with impeccable tailoring and signature details.

From being invited by the Govt. Of Rajasthan, Ministry of Textiles to showcase at the Rajasthan Heritage Week, 2016 to being invited to showcase and launch the printed handloom saree line on an global platform at 2018 Harbin Fashion Week, China, Mr. Ajay Kumar has not only succeeded in creating a mark in India but also on the international runway having won the ‘Designer of the Year 2018’ Award at Harbin Fashion Week, China.
