Industries are made more vibrant by design, and the world is made a better place by design. On January 13th, the first World Fashion Designers Conference, themed "Fashion Design · Productivity," opened at Xicheng Red Square in Harbin. The conference was guided by the China National Textile and Apparel Council and the People's Government of Heilongjiang Province; jointly hosted by the People's Government of Harbin City, the China National Garment Association, the China Fashion Designers Association, and the Heilongjiang Provincial Garment Industry Association; co-organized by the Department of Culture of Heilongjiang Province, the Department of Commerce of Heilongjiang Province, and Xicheng Red Square; and co-sponsored by the Harbin Branch of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, the People's Government of Nangang District, and Hongbo Commercial.
Accelerating the transformation of fashion design through "culture, talent, and platform"
The purpose of this event is to build the most influential fashion and cultural exchange and cooperation platform globally. "Using culture to foster good neighbourliness, make friends, benefit the people, and promote industry," it connects global fashion creative R&D personnel, designers, end-user brands, manufacturers, material suppliers, university research institutions, and fashion buyers to build friendships, trust, and a collaborative business environment, contributing to Made in China 2025 and providing necessary output capabilities for innovation in China's fashion industry.
At the conference, fashion industry associations, experts, scholars, and designers from home and abroad delivered keynote speeches on topics such as fashion trends and AI-powered aesthetics, bringing unexpected brainstorming sessions to the attendees. In particular, the signing and establishment of the "Northeast Three-Hour Fashion Industry Belt Collaborative Development Promotion Committee" and the "International AI Intelligent Fashion Aesthetics Research Institute and Better Life Market Forecasting Laboratory" further solidified Harbin's international standing as a fashion hub along the "Belt and Road" initiative.
He emphasized that the current new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation is converging with global political and economic adjustments, resulting in new trends and changes in fashion design, including rapid iteration, local roots, individual diversity, information-driven approaches, and a responsibility-oriented approach. To adapt to these new changes and promote the transformation of fashion design into real productivity, achieving high-quality development in the industry, efforts can be made in three dimensions: culture, talent, and platforms. Specifically, this means establishing cultural confidence and cultivating core values; strengthening talent cultivation and building a solid foundation for development; and promoting platform construction and integrating resources.
Facing the new positioning and opportunities for the development of the textile and apparel industry in the new era, he pointed out that fashion design, as one of the strategic high grounds for industry development, is an important way to promote quality transformation, efficiency transformation, and power transformation, and achieve high-quality development. The textile and apparel industry needs to overcome societal arrogance and prejudice, and overturn traditional impressions such as "low-profit industry" and "sweat economy," by focusing on fashion design.
Sun Ruizhe, President of the China National Textile and Apparel Council, congratulated the convening of the first World Fashion Designers Conference and affirmed Harbin's leading role in fashion innovation over the years. He stated that the fundamental characteristic of China's economic development entering a new era is the shift from high-speed growth to high-quality development, which presents new challenges for the fashion industry. This conference, themed "Fashion Design · Productivity," places fashion design at the level of developing productivity, which is a very meaningful exploration.
In his address, Li Chengzhi, Deputy Secretary-General of the Harbin Municipal People's Government, stated that over the past seven years, Harbin Fashion Week has had a positive impact on enhancing Harbin's openness to the outside world, promoting fashion exchanges and cooperation between Harbin and other countries, raising the city's international profile, developing the convention and exhibition economy, driving urban construction, and improving citizens' aesthetic literacy.
The choice of Harbin as the venue for the first World Fashion Designers Conference, with Xicheng Red Square as its permanent location, will have a profound impact on the development of Harbin's fashion industry. The upgrade of Fashion Week and the holding of the Designers Conference will help accelerate the revitalization and development of the old industrial base, and will also play a positive role in promoting the development and prosperity of Harbin's urban construction, cultural integration, tourism, and service industries.

In her address, Wang Limei, Special Invited Vice President of the China National Textile and Apparel Council, President of the Heilongjiang Provincial Garment Industry Association, and General Manager of Hongbo Commercial Group, stated that the World Fashion Designers Conference held in Harbin provides a platform for designers worldwide to connect, share resources, lead fashion trends, and achieve win-win cooperation. Global fashion resources and innovative forces converge and transform here, fostering symbiosis and sharing to build a "Beautiful Life + Ecosystem" encompassing artistic, intelligent, creative, and healthy living. Faced with the new round of global industrial revolution, Hongbo Commercial Group, as a Chinese enterprise, will increasingly assume the role of a technology contributor and driver, collaborating with global partners to develop together and speak with one voice.
